What to Expect at Your First Appointment
First time having acupuncture? That’s completely okay. Here’s what you can expect when you visit Jennifer at Your Healthy Horizon.
Before your appointment
After booking online, by email or phone, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to complete your online intake form. If you don’t have time beforehand, you’re welcome to arrive 5 minutes early and complete it on the clinic iPad.
When you arrive
Jennifer will welcome you and invite you into the treatment room. Occasionally there may be a short wait while the room is prepared for you.
Your consultation
During your first appointment, Jennifer will spend time discussing your main concerns and your general health history. This allows her to create an individual treatment plan based on a Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis. Jennifer believes in helping patients understand their health, so you’re always encouraged to ask questions.
Getting ready for treatment
You’ll be invited to lie comfortably on the treatment table. Depending on the concern being treated, you may be asked to remove some clothing, but this will always be explained clearly and your comfort and privacy will be maintained. Wearing loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.
Your treatment
Acupuncture treatments are personalised to each patient. Needles are typically retained for 20–25 minutes while you relax, breathe deeply, and enjoy the calm treatment space.
Your session may also include other Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques such as:
- Massage
- Infrared heat lamp
- Cupping
- Gua Sha
Initial appointments are usually 60 minutes. It’s helpful to allow some time afterwards so you don’t feel rushed.
After your treatment
Once you’re dressed, you’ll meet Jennifer in reception to discuss the treatment and any recommendations. You may receive advice on lifestyle, diet, or self-care to support your health between appointments.
You’ll also be provided with a recommended treatment plan and timeline, which will be emailed to you along with any additional information.
The clinic has HiCaps and eftpos for payment for treatment.
Rebooking can be made at this time. You will also be given Jennifer’s mobile number so you can contact her if you have any concerns or to make appointments.
Follow up appointments are very similar, Jennifer will ask how you have been feeling since the last treatment, if pain or condition has changed, is there any new symptoms to be addressed etc. Follow up treatments are generally of a shorter duration (needles are retained for the same amount of time) but as we have less to discuss follow up treatments are usually 40mins
